AO Universal Shelving for Large Format Storage

A need to present conservators with a quick and identifiable storage and retrieval storage system prompted the National Archives in Kew to contact Polstore Storage Systems.

The paper conservation department required a universal system with drawers and shelves to store large format paper materials. Polstore designed a system where the base level utilised AO plan chests with the upper level having six adjustable shelf positions. The four-bay unit was fully clad with rear and side panels and with a double vertical storage capacity floor space used was reduced by 50%.

The system was delivered in component form and assembled on site by Polstore engineers within the working day minimising any disruption.

Within the same work area free standing widespan and longspan shelving was installed in various wall locations.
